So you know …
The Spotted Bass is a satirical sports and news website produced in Louisville, Ky., and published by two people who tend to follow sports and news with some vigor. Any resemblance to real people here is strictly accidental and coincidental; unless, of course, that person is a public figure, which makes that person perfectly fair and legal game for this brand of flattery.
Satire, so you know, is commonly defined as “the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.” We have successfully, we believe, applied this model to the world of sports, some national news, and general business emanating from Louisville, Ky., a place not quite as accepting of satire as, say, New York, but for the Midwest, we do pretty well.
If you happen to be a public figure and are troubled by something you find on The Spotted Bass, please don’t bother to write — unless you’d like to see your commentary on the home page of The Spotted Bass. In this case, feel free. We understand the compulsion to be directly involved in such an acute display of wit, and will gladly indulge any ill-advised personal communication entered into the public record via e-mail or letter. Any elected official who would like to contribute commentary to The Spotted Bass may do so at any time, and trust in the knowledge that his or her commentary will be reprinted in full, unedited on this website, so long as said official has never told a public lie that is not protected by satire statutes.
If you are not a public figure and your name has been used in a story or headline, much to your chagrin, be advised of the first paragraph on this page. If, after re-reading said paragraph, you still believe you should write to us, please do. We will most assuredly not respond. Upon further consideration, we might respond if your name happens to be Ron Cooper.
If you are a local newscaster interested in talking with the publishing moguls behind The Spotted Bass, please prepare yourself for the interview by reading the book, “The Spotted Bass: The Illustrated, Illustrious History,” by Agnew Foster. The publishers respectfully require anonymity, so you may want to bring a flashlight so as to be able to consult your notes during our on-camera interview, which will take place in utter darkness.
If you are a local print or web journalist interested in profiling the publishers of The Spotted Bass, please consider the following statement: “For every moment of triumph, for every instance of beauty, many souls must be trampled.”

Got something good?
The Spotted Bass will entertain story pitches of no more than 50 words here. This e-mail address is maintained by the media moguls behind this site, so if you need to find us, that’s where. Our Books Division will consider your manuscript.
