McConnell recycles Diet Coke can outside Senate office

In a move described by some as "a mere photo-op," U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) recycled a Diet Coke can outside his Washington office yesterday. McConnell, who has worked with Vice President Dick Cheney to restructure each of the nation's energy laws, said the move was to bolster his self-made image as the “Godfather of Green.”

“This proves once again that I, Addison Mitchell McConnell, otherwise known as ‘Mitch,' am the ‘Godfather of Green,'” said McConnell, in a riveting blank stare that often intimidates his opponents. “Not green as in money. No, no, no, not me. Green as in trees, as in Bushes, as in shrubs, as in wildlife, as in my wife's permanent resident card.”

Greg Fischer, the leading Democratic candidate to oppose McConnell in 2008, said the “Godfather of Green” slogan deceives voters.

“You know what? I'd like for Mitch's entire Senate run to be recycled,” said Fischer. “Because all he's provided for this country is a bunch of waste. He's wasted the taxpayer's time, money, and, well, dignity. He's a disgrace.”

In other news, the League of Conservation Voters recently named McConnell the "Don of the Dirty Dozen" for his record on conservation issues. "Don" has accepted $580,000 from the oil and gas industry, $300,000 from electric utilities, and $507,000 from the mining industry.
