Splitsville, KY: Patrick got along great with her elder friends, but Dan had other plans.

Various news sources indicate KY Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Beshear’s running mate, Dan Mongiardo, 46, has left his 21-year-old fiancée, Allison Patrick, for an 18-year-old male college freshman. The student, who has yet to identify himself other than by “Dan’s Man”, finally talked to the media by phone last night after intense rumors about the pair circulated late last week.

“Yes, the things going around about Dan and I are indeed true,” said “Dan’s Man”, who was so afraid of his safety last week that he activated all of the glow sticks in his off-campus apartment. “We’re doing just fabulous together, and that’s all I really need to say right now. He has a big race to run, and I can tell you he’s got the perfect high-cut shorts to win it.

"Why me, you ask? For the love of Jim McGreevey, he needed someone with a little more spunk in his life and that's what he gets with me.”

Republicans, notably Senator Jim Bunning, said the news isn’t shocking considering they released similar accusations three years ago during Mongiardo’s failed senatorial run. Reached at his mahogany desk in his pearl white Washington, D.C. office, a bemused Bunning said he feels vindicated.

“You know, I really don’t remember much from 2004, but I do know that Dan Mongiardo is a gay terrorist and his thugs beat my wife to where she was black and blue,” shouted Bunning, who said he’s trying to ensure homosexual tendencies don’t get the best of his good friend, Idaho Senator Larry Craig. “I’m sorry, what did you just ask me about again?”

Beshear-Mongiardo campaign spokeswoman Vicki Glass would not elaborate on the situation, only saying she was most concerned about Ms. Patrick.

“Despite their 40-plus year difference in age, Ms. Patrick and Mrs. Beshear had developed a close relationship on the campaign trail over the past few months,” said Glass. “Allison (Patrick) even said recently that Jane (Beshear) seemed like a second sorority mom to her. I’m sure she’s just devastated, especially considering she’s stuck with Dr. Dan all these years.”

Patrick, rumored now to be eyeing 84 Lumber founder Joe Hardy, could not be reached last night at her home, the University of Kentucky’s Alpha Gamma Delta house. If the Beshear-Mongiardo ticket wins the November 6 election, “Dan’s Man” would become the first Second Man in Kentucky since Dr. Bill Collins, husband of Martha Layne Collins, in 1979.

Through careful analysis, The Spotted Bass was able to determine that descriptions by "Dan's Man" of certain parts of Mongiardo's anatomy did not match descriptions offered by Cucinello.
