Yarmuth draws first mud against Northup

Anticipating the emergence of former Republican Congresswoman Anne Northup from pseudo retirement as a serious challenger to his seat, 3 rd District Rep. John Yarmuth issued a statement blasting the woman he knocked out of Congress a year and a half ago, slinging a handful of mud before the classic mudslinger could palm a load herself.

Northup, a notoriously nasty campaigner, Bush supporter and general malcontent unless she's getting her way, lost an ill-advised bid for her party's gubernatorial nomination just a few months after being humiliated in Louisville by Yarmuth, an unabashed liberal and founder of a newsweekly that proves it.

“This is what happens with a professional politician: they keep running no matter how many times voters reject them,” Yarmuth said in a statement.

The first-term Congressman, who voters responded to positively after he ran a relatively clean campaign the first time around, could alienate some of his crossover support for the early roundhouse at a defenseless woman. However, it could help him recover more of the NASCAR vote, as wife-beating remains “in” among that set of voters.
