Rex Chapman covets Tubby Smith's hypothetical daughter
Former Kentucky player Rex Chapman, who was chastised by Wildcat fans during his playing days for his involvement in an interracial relationship, said Tuesday that he wished Tubby Smith had a daughter.
“Man, wouldn’t that be great?” said Chapman, who admitted he would like to “date her if she existed.”
Chapman’s decision to make such a statement suggests the climate around the traditionally "blue and white, hold the blue" campus has changed for the better. In the early 1990’s, after fans found out the Kentucky star, who is white, was dating Makisha Knight, a black student, Chapman’s new 1992 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS was vandalized, his payments from boosters ceased, and his psyche plummeted along with his on-court production.
Chapman said as recently as 2005 that the main reason he skipped his senior season at Kentucky to enter the NBA draft was because of the Wildcat faithful's harsh reaction. Now Chapman has forgiven the fans, and is looking for a similar relationship from the kin of the former UK head coach. Unfortunately for Chapman, Smith does not have a daughter and, considering his wife Donna’s age and figure, it looks as if the possibility is remote.
“Look, it’s not going to happen,” said Smith, who's glad he no longer has to stare at Ramel Bradley during practice. “Saul is the closest thing I have to a girl, and hey, he may be actually looking out for Rex as well.”
