Gillispie's girlfriend: 'Like, who does this Mr. Gardner-Webb think he is, anyway?'
Embattled Kentucky head coach Billy Gillispie certainly has one person left in his corner: girlfriend Emily Grayson. In a confused and jumbled rage, Grayson lashed out at the local media for criticizing Gillispie's first loss of his Wildcat coaching career last week, a shocking 84-68 defeat to low-major Gardner-Webb.
"Like, who does this Mr. Gardner-Webb think he is, anyway?" screamed Grayson, a 20-year-old UK English major who works at Two Keys Tavern in Lexington. "Billy's a man. He's like, such as, 48. He'll go to the Asian countries, or South Africa, or the Iraq, whatever it takes, and beat Gardner-Webb next time. I, like, have no idea where you are on maps, Mr. Gardner-Webb, but watch out!
"And all you media people, everything you do, trying to follow me and my man, is garbage. It's such as garbage. Everybody needs a little peace and quiet when they're in a bar, damnit. Just leave us alone. You make me wanna puke."
When asked about Grayson's comments, Gillispie stuttered, "I…I…I can't talk."
