Kragthorpe embarrassed by prep player's admission

Kevin Hart, an offensive lineman from Nevada who signed with Cal, admitted last week that what appeared to be an evil joke was actually nothing more than a self-inflicted hoax. Hart signed with Cal after being heavily recruited by Coach Jeff Tedford, or so his entire high school, family, and state of Nevada thought.

"I made the whole thing up," Hart said. "The calls, the visits, I fabricated everything. I've never been to Berkeley. When I supposed to be on my official visit, I was really just sitting at home fake-recruiting myself. It was pretty fun; I missed a ton of school. I liked pretending to be (LSU coach) Les Miles the most."

The embarrassment, however, does not end there. Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe had recruited Hart since his junior year.

"I guess it's a little humiliating," Kragthorpe said. "I thought this was a kid who we could use to shore up our offensive line. I guess he'd rather be fake-recruited by Cal than actually recruited by us."

When asked about Louisville's recruitment, Hart confirmed that they had shown interest, but said that he didn't return the affection.

"I really wanted to play at a D-1 school," Hart said. "They're NAIA now, right?"

"We'd still take him," Kragthorpe said. "And no, Kev-O, we're D-1."

Apparently Hart was confused by the new form of representation for D-1, which is now called the "Football Bowl Subdivision."

"I've decided to officially re-open my recruitment," Hart said in a written statement Friday. "I must tell you, though, USC and Texas have shown a lot of interest, but I think I'll hold out for a few weeks."
