Petrino still unaware that Michael Vick is Marcus Vick’s brother

Petrino just can't stop smirking when describing his love for quarterback Michael Vick.

Atlanta Falcons first-year coach Bobby Petrino stuck with Michael Vick as his starting quarterback yesterday, this time crediting Vick’s family for defending his oft-troubled star player.

“No question about it, Michael Vick is my quarterback,” said Petrino. “Michael is a great leader, wonderful person, and, perhaps most importantly, comes from a great family. He had a solid upbringing. No question about it, I think you can you see where Michael got all of those great characteristics.”

The Vick family includes Michael’s brother Marcus, who was dismissed from Virginia Tech after stomping on the leg of one of Petrino’s former players at Louisville, Elvis Dumervil, during the 2006 Gator Bowl. However, Petrino appeared nonchalant when describing his love affair with the Vick clan. “They’re athletic, great to be around, and, yes, a little outspoken,” Petrino said with a slight smirk which may have indicated he was laughing. “I tell you what, there’s no way you could muzzle Michael like you do a pit bull.”
