Wives’ expected births could cause Utah player to skip UofL game

Two tickets to paradise: Smith rushes to the hospital like he does to quarterbacks.
Utah starting defensive end Warren Smith, 27, could be forced to skip Friday night’s showdown with Louisville because two of his three wives, Janie and Marcie, are pregnant and will soon deliver his children.  Janie is due October 6 while Marcie is due October 7. Although Janie and Marcie Smith both told their husband not to worry about remaining in Utah or cutting the trip to Louisville short, depending on the circumstances, Warren Smith insists his presence is more important than a football game.

“Being with my wives during this very special time is just golden to me,” said Smith, whose mission this year is to post a would-be record 18 sacks for the Utes. “You have to put these kinds of things in perspective.  I mean, I may only get to do this 17, maybe 18 more times in my life.  I want to be able to tell my children one day their father and mothers cared about them so much they were willing to sacrifice anything to be with them.  You know, sometimes you just can’t be three places at once.  I’ll go for two.”

If Smith does miss the game, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said backups Jo-Jo Jeffs and Bucky Young would see more action.
